Philips Arena Stadium

Philips Arena is home to the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association, the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League, and the Georgia Force of the Arena Football League.

Completed in 1999, Philips Arena cost $213.5 million to construct. Sponsored by Philips electronics, which paid $168 million for 20 years for naming rights to Philips Arena, Philips Arena has a number of Philips television screens inside the arena. Philips Arena seats 20,300 for basketball, 18,750 for hockey and up to 21,000 for concerts. Originally managed by Turner Operations, Philips Arena has been managed by Arena Operations since 2004 and ownership was recently granted to Atlanta Spirit.

Philips Arena was laid out in an unusual manner on both the inside and the outside. On the inside, one whole side of Philips Arena is club seats and luxury boxes aligned on the playing surface, while the other three sides are all general admission. The exterior features angled steel columns which spell out "ATLANTA" on one side and "CNN" on the other.

Many events have made their way through Philips Arena. The first NHL game at Philips Arena took place on October 2, 1999, before a sold-out crowd when the New Jersey Devils visited the Atlanta Thrashers. Various events such as Disney on Ice and Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus have passed through Philips Arena. Concerts including U2 and Widespread Panic are just two examples of performers who have performed at Philips Arena.
