SCOTIABANK PLACE

Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, is home to the National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators. Built in the Canada's high-tech capital Kanata, Scotiabank Place first broke ground in 1992. Prior to playing in Scotiabank Place, the Ottawa Senators spent their early seasons in the Ottawa Civic Center.

Due to good weather and great work progress Scotiabank Place was ready six months ahead of schedule. When it first opened in January of 1996, Scotiabank Place was known as The Palladium. One month later, the Canadian software maker Corel Corporation signed a 20-year deal and paid $26 million Canadian to purchase the naming rights.

When Scotiabank Place was first constructed and opened in 1996, it cost $240 million and had seating for 18,500 people. Due to its location, the cost of construction also included an office tower, hotel, roads, and a highway interchange. In 2004 Scotiabank Place underwent an expansion and added an additional 2,000 seats to bring the capacity of Scotiabank Place to 20,500.

Scotiabank Place features 600,000 square feet on four levels. Included in the capacity seating are 2,500 club seats. In addition to the seating area, Scotiabank Place has a YM-YWCA and a sports medicine and physiotherapy centre.

The first NHL game at Scotiabank Place took place on January 17, 1996, when the Ottawa Senators took on the Montreal Canadiens. On December 30, 2004, the Ottawa 67's set a Canadian Hockey League attendance mark of 20,081 when they hosted the Kingston Frontenacs at Scotiabank Place.
