Rexall Place Stadium

Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, is home to the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers. One of the older arenas in the NHL, Rexall Place first opened in 1974. Since it first opened, Rexall Place has also hosted various other events in addition to Edmonton Oilers games.

In addition to being named Rexall Place, other previous names include Northlands Coliseum, Edmonton Arena, and Skyreach Centre. Skyreach Equipment paid $1 million a year for naming rights in 1998 for five years. When the Katz Group signed for naming rights for Rexall Place in December 2003, the deal was signed for an undisclosed amount which expires in 2013.

Arena level space at Rexall Place measures in at 85,000 square feet. Rexall Arena has hosted groups as small as 100 people, and some of the concerts that have been at Rexall Place have had over 18,000 attendants. For hockey games, Rexall Place seats 17,100.

From the 1983-84 season to the 1989-90 season, the Edmonton Oilers won five Stanley Cups in six seasons. Many great NHL players have played for the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place at some point during their career. Future Hall of Fame players and players already in the Hall of Fame that have played for the Edmonton Oilers include Paul Coffey, Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, and Mark Messier.

Although Rexall Place has a reputation for being one of the quietest arenas in the NHL, it has been said that the quiet is due to the fans that have a respect and understanding of the game of hockey. When fans see something amazing, they are sure to let the players know their appreciation.

Other events that take place at Rexall Place each year include hosting the Edmonton Rush of the National Lacrosse League's home games and the Canadian Finals Rodeo.
