New York Islanders | Nassau Coliseum Tickets |

Dedicated to those who made the supreme sacrifice for their country, the full name of Nassau Coliseum is Nassau Veteran Memorial Coliseum. Nassau Coliseum is located in Uniondale, New York, about a half hour outside New York City. Both the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League and the New York Dragons of the Arena Football League call Nassau Coliseum home.
Nassau Coliseum opened in 1972. Known as The Coliseum, it occupies 63 acres of Mitchel Field. Mitchel Field was a former Army and Air Force base that was shut down in 1960. Nassau Coliseum was built for a cost of $32 million. Adjacent to Nassau Coliseum is a 600,000 square foot Exhibition Hall for trade shows, consumer shows, and conventions.
Originally constructed to fit a capacity of 12,000 to 15,000 spectators depending on the event, Nassau Coliseum expanded in the 80s to an increased maximum capacity of 18,000. For hockey, Nassau Coliseum seats 16,234 people; up to 17,760 for concerts; and can seat 17,686 fans for boxing and wrestling events.
Nassau Coliseum is considered by some to be one of the toughest arenas for visiting teams to play in due to the crowd noise that echoes within the interior. In addition to NHL and AFL games, various events are held yearly at Nassau Coliseum. Nassau Coliseum can accommodate almost all forms of entertainment and sports. Some examples include boxing, state-of-the-art rock concerts, track and field, and touring family shows.
Many historical events have happened at Nassau Coliseum. The first regular season NHL game was October 7, 1972, when the New York Islanders took on the Atlanta Flames for the first New York Islanders NHL game in Nassau Coliseum. In 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983, the New York Islanders won four consecutive Stanley Cups.
