Jobing.com Arena Stadium

Jobing.com Arena replaced the old America West Arena in Phoenix as the home for the National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes. The Arizona Sting of the National Lacrosse League also call Jobing.com Arena home.

America West Arena was originally built for basketball. When the Phoenix Coyotes came to Glendale, America West Arena had to be retrofitted for hockey. It was soon discovered that the new arena format lessened capacity by 2,000 seats due in part to seats with restricted views. With the capacity crowd of just over 16,000 for hockey, America West Arena was the smallest arena in the NHL.

The Phoenix Coyotes were sold into a partnership with Steve Ellman, owner of Ellman Companies. When Glendale City Council and Ellman Companies reached a memo of understanding to keep the Phoenix Coyotes in Glendale for 30 years, plans began on building a new arena.

When it was completed in 2003, Jobing.com Arena cost $180 million. The city of Glendale funded the cost of Jobing.com Arena through general obligation bond funding and excise tax funding, which will be repaid through revenue generated directly from the arena.

In addition to hockey and lacrosse games, Jobing.com Arena hosts concerts and family shows, as well as various other kinds of sporting events including All-Star games, basketball tournaments, and figure skating.

The 2006 NHL All-Star game had originally been scheduled to be played at Jobin.com Arena. Due to using NHL players in the Olympics, many of the NHL players are headed for the 2006 Winter Games in Torino and the NHL All-Star game has since been cancelled to accommodate this.
