Bell Centre

Located in downtown Montreal, Quebec, the Bell Centre is home to the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens and the Montreal Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Formerly known as the Molson Centre, the Montreal Canadiens moved into the Bell Centre in 1996. Prior to playing in the Bell Centre, the Montreal Canadiens played in the Montreal Forum.

The Bell Centre attracts approximately 1.5 million visitors each year with more than 150 events the Bell Centre hosts each year. Measuring in at 168,780 square feet, the Bell Centre has a capacity of 14,000 to 21,500 people, depending on what the Bell Centre is being used for at the time. When hockey is at the Bell Centre, a sold-out capacity crowd is 21,273 people, the largest capacity of any arena in the NHL.

Of all the configurations of the Bell Centre, the Bell Centre Hemicycle is the most intimate. A regular seating section seats 2,000 to 3,500 people. The Bell Centre Theatre configuration allows for a smaller audience, with a crowd of 5,000 to 9,000 people. For bigger events, the Bell Centre Ampitheatre seats 10,000 to 14,000 people. Thanks to a fully-motorized computer-assisted system, the Bell Centre seating configuration is changed with a simple adjustment of a curtain. The new set up is completed in less than an hour.

The first NHL game at Bell Centre was March 16, 1996 when the Montreal Canadiens hosted the New York Rangers. Bell Centre has seen many historical events over the years. During the 1996-97 NHL season the Montreal Canadiens averaged an NHL record 21,002 fans per game. While the Montreal Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup more times than any other NHL team, they are yet to win it since they started playing in the Bell Centre.

In addition to hockey, the Bell Centre also hosts various events throughout the year. Boxing, professional wrestling, concerts such as Celine Dion, and many more events and performers pass through Bell Centre each year.
