LP Field

LP Field in Nashville, Tenn., is home to the National Football League's Tennessee Titans and Tennessee State University's Tennessee State Tigers. LP Field opened as Adelphia Coliseum in 1999. That year the Tennessee Titans played in their first Super Bowl.

LP Field routinely sells out for Tennessee Titans games even though in 1997 and 1998 the team played at two different college stadiums as the Tennessee Oilers and couldn't find much of a fan base. Perhaps location is key. The team, formerly the Houston Oilers, moved to Tennessee to gain a stadium designed primarily for football. What it eventually acquired was the open-air stadium with a grass playing surface and a sophisticated field irrigation and drainage system.

LP Field is a 68,798-seat facility with three levels. The lower grandstand circles the gridiron. The facility features 175 corporate suites and 12,000 club seats with access to two club lounges. Two scoreboard/video-boards beyond the end zones overlook the field. The $290-million LP Field was publicly funded and opened on-time despite a tornado that struck the site during construction. LP Field also doubles as a large concert venue. It is also the site of the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl, a postseason NCAA college football Bowl Game played each December. Every June, LP Field houses the main stage for the annual Country Music Association Music Festival (formerly known as Fan Fair), an appropriate fit given the city's Music City roots.

Located at One Titans Way, LP Field sits on the Cumberland River across from downtown Nashville, and gives fans a beautiful view of the city's skyline. When tLP Field opened, naming rights had been sold to Adelphia Communications at fee of $30 million dollars for 15 years. The name was dropped in 2002 after the company filed for bankruptcy.
