|Heinz Field Tickets|
The Pittsburgh Steelers joined the ranks of teams acquiring new stadiums as they entered the new Millennium. In August 2001, Heinz Field, the gold-seated stadium affectionately called The Mustard Palace by fans, opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Heinz Field gave a new home to the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL franchise and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers college football team.
Heinz Field features a horseshoe-shaped design with the open end facing the Ohio River and the Pittsburgh skyline. Heinz Field replaced Three Rivers Stadium, which was also the former home of Major League Baseball's Pittsburgh Pirates franchise. The Pittsburgh Steelers' new home offers more seats concentrated on the lower level and on the sidelines. With a capacity of 64,450 seats, Heinz Field's seating options include 127 luxury suites and 6,600 club seats. Heinz Field also has a greater number of restrooms and a state-of-the-art scoreboard which improve the fan experience of those familiar with Three Rivers Stadium. Heinz Field's construction costs topped out at $281 million. Not surprisingly, Heinz Field's primary structural building material is steel with the design becoming gradually more transparent as the stadium rises. The facility, located at 100 Art Rooney Ave., is built opposite PNC Park, the new home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The two stadiums share a common parking area.
New to the four-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers is a natural grass field. Underground heating helps Heinz Field's grass survive Pittsburgh's harsh winters. Primarily a football facility, Heinz Field has also hosted soccer games and concerts. The H. J. Heinz Company acquired the naming rights for Heinz Field at a cost of $57 million paid over 20 years. In honor of the facility's namesake two giant neon red ketchup bottles flank the main scoreboard.
At the East end of Heinz Field you'll find the Coca-Cola Great Hall. The McDonald's Steelers Kids Zone Show, and the Giant Eagle Jerome Bettis Show are taped on this site. The Great Hall features a Steelers Hall of Fame with mementos and equipment from Steelers Greats and displays built in the original lockers from Three Rivers Stadium.
