Qwest Field

Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington, is home to the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. In addition to the Seattle Seahawks, the Seattle Sounders men's and women's professional soccer teams also play their homes games at Qwest Field.

The Seattle Seahawks first played in the Kingdome, which was the previous home of not only the Seattle Seahawks but also the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball and several other Seattle sports teams. When the Kingdome went down in 2000, it succumbed to the largest implosion of a single concrete structure in the world.

Qwest Field broke ground in 2000 and was opened two years later. The $360 million structure was first called Seahawks Stadium until Qwest bought naming rights for $75 million for 15 years beginning in 2004. Most of the financing for the stadium was through the public, while the remaining amount was the responsibility of Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen.

While the 67,000 fixed seats provide seating for Seattle Seahawks games, the maximum capacity at Qwest Stadium is 72,000. Included in the football capacity are 100 suites including "Red Zone" suites, which are the first-ever field-level boxes in an NFL stadium. The executive suites are also the largest in all of professional sports. A roof provides protection for 70 percent of the seats. In terms of guests in need of special assistance, Qwest Field offers 1,400 seats for people in wheelchairs and their companions. Disabled parking is available and Qwest Field has various amenities that are fully ADA compliant.

The first NFL football game held at Qwest Stadium was September 15, 2002, when the Seattle Seahawks hosted the Arizona Cardinals. Other events that occur at Qwest Field every year include Seattle Public Schools and Lake Washington School District Graduations, various shows and conventions such as International Gem and Jewelry Show, and the Seattle Golf Show.
