Superdome

Commonly referred to simply as the Superdome, the Louisiana Superdome is a multi-purpose facility in New Orleans , Louisiana . The New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL) and the Sugar Bowl of college football have been played in the Louisiana Superdome since 1975. Due to Hurricane Katrina in the late summer of 2005, the Louisiana Superdome had to undergo extensive repair but is scheduled to be ready in time for the 2006 NFL season.

The Louisiana Superdome is expected to reopen on time for the New Orleans Saints home opener against the Atlanta Falcons on September 24, 2006. It is estimated that the Superdome will cost approximately $140 million to repair and refurbish.

Before Hurricane Katrina, the first football game played at Louisiana Superdome featured the New Orleans Saints and the Cincinnati Bengals on September 28, 1975. The Louisiana Superdome is currently located on 52 acres and is the largest fixed domed structure in the world. Seating capacity at the Louisiana Superdome ranges from 69,703 people to 72,003 when expanded. Some attendance figures for the Sugar Bowl have surpassed 79,000 people.

The Louisiana Superdome has hosted more Super Bowls than any other facility boasting six Super Bowls, the most recent in 2002. Several college basketball Finals Fours have been hosted at the Louisiana Superdome. The 1998 Republican National Convention was held at the Louisiana Superdome.
