Edward Jones Dome

Edward Jones Dome was built mainly with the hopes of bringing a National Football League team back to St. Louis. When the St. Louis Rams returned to St. Louis in 1994, Edward Jones Dome was not yet complete. The first several weeks of the 1995 NFL season had the St. Louis Rams play in Busch Stadium, the home of the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball. But as soon as Edmond Jones Dome was finished in 1995, the St. Louis Rams were ready to call it home.

Cost of constructing the Edward Jones Dome was $280 million, largely financed by debt services from the city, state and county. When it first opened, Edward Jones Dome was known as the Trans World Dome until 2001, when it was briefly known as the Dome at America's Center. When naming rights were acquired by Edward Jones investments, they agreed to pay the St. Louis Rams $2.65 million per year for 12 years beginning in January 2002.

Seating at the Edward Jones Dome is currently 65,321 for NFL games. Three seating tiers circle the field. There are 6,300 club seats and 125 luxury boxes in Edward Jones Dome. The field is a "Magic Turf" system in which the football field can be rolled up in about an hour to prepare for other events such as concerts and conventions. Following the 2004 season, Edward Jones Dome replaced the video/score boards with new High Definition ones.

The current playing field of the Edward Jones Dome is a one-year plan for FieldTurf instead of the 10-year old AstroTurf that used to be the playing surface. Beginning in May 2005, FieldTurf will be used until a more flexible surface can be utilized that allows access to the power outlets on the floor of the dome.

The first NFL game at Edward Jones Dome took place on November 12, 1995, when the St. Louis Rams hosted the Carolina Panthers. In 1999, the Edward Jones Dome hosted the largest indoor gathering in the United States when Pope John Paul II held mass in front of 104,000 people. The 2005 NCAA Final Four was hosted at the Edward Jones Dome, and is also set to host the NCAA Men's Basketball St. Louis Regional in 2007 as well as the Women's Final Four in 2009.
