Alltel

Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, is home to the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League. The Jacksonville Jaguars have played all of their home games at Alltel Stadium since they joined the NFL in 1995. Construction of Alltel Stadium began in August 1994 and was completed in time for the Jacksonville Jaguars home opener in 1995.

Built in just under 20 months, Alltel Stadium cost $134 million, $60 million of which was provided by the city of Jacksonville. When Alltel Stadium first opened, it was originally known as Jacksonville Municipal Stadium and built on the foundation of the old Gator Bowl Stadium. When Alltel Communications purchased naming rights for $6.2 million for 10 years beginning in 1997, the stadium then became known as Alltel Stadium.

The first regular-season game at Alltel Stadium featured the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Oilers on September 3, 1995. With the regular-season home opener at Alltel Stadium, the Jacksonville Jaguars became the first NFL expansion team to play their first home game of their first season in a new arena. The construction of Alltel Stadium was also completed in the fastest time of any major league arena built in North America.

While Alltel Stadium has a 76,877-seat capacity, some of those seats are reserved for guests needing wheelchair assistance. Those attending Jacksonville Jaguars games in a wheelchair have access to wheelchair access and companion seats on a first-come, first-served basis.

Various other events take place at Alltel Stadium other then Jacksonville Jaguars games. Alltel Stadium also hosts monster truck shows and concerts, and other sports events such as the annual Gator Bowl which features a team from the Big East and Atlantic Coast Conferences. Alltel Stadium hosted Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005.
