Georgia Dome

The Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League call the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia, home. In addition to Atlanta Falcons home games, the Georgia Dome also hosts college football's annual Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl game. During the construction of Philips Arena from 1997 until 1999, the Atlanta Hawks also played their home games at the Georgia Dome.

When the Georgia Dome was finally completed in 1992, it cost $214 million. Located on just over nine acres of land, the Georgia Dome encompasses a total floor area of 102,149 square feet. The dome was the largest domed structure in the world until the Millennium Dome opened in London on December 31, 1999. However, the Georgia Dome remains the largest cable-supported dome in the world.

Seating capacity at the Georgia Dome is set at 71,250 seats. Included in those seats are 203 executive suites, 4,600 club seats, and the Penthouse Suite. On January 2, 2004, a Georgia Dome-record 75,125 people attended the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Bishop T.D. Jakes made an appearance July 30, 1999, in front of a single-day Georgia Dome record of 84,459 people.

The first NFL game at Georgia Dome took place September 9, 1992, when the Atlanta Falcons hosted the New York Jets. In addition to sporting events, the Georgia Dome hosts other various events throughout the year. Motorsports Monster Jam and Motorsports Supercross, WCW Monday Night Nitro, and Evander Holyfield vs. Vaughn Bean are just some events that have been hosted at Georgia Dome.

The Georgia Dome has also hosted many historical events. Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994 and Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000 were both held at the Georgia Dome. Gymnastics and basketball were both held in the Georgia Dome during the 1996 Summer Olympics. In 2002, the NCAA Final Four was held at the Georgia Dome; in 2003 it was the women's turn for the NCAA Final Four.

Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the 2006 Sugar Bowl is set to be hosted at the Georgia Dome instead of at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Final Four is expected to return to the Georgia Dome in 2007.
