Texas Stadium hosts the homes games of the National Football League's Dallas Cowboys. Located in Irving, Texas, Texas Stadium first opened on October 24, 1971. Texas Stadium was also the brief home of the Dallas Tornado of the North American Soccer League, from 1972 until 1975.

When it was originally built, the stadium was supposed to have been an enclosed dome, but the weight of the roof could not be supported. When public funding for the $35 million Texas Stadium exhausted, most of the stands wound up being enclosed, but not the playing field itself. The playing field was first made of a form of AstroTurf but was replaced in 2002 with a surface called RealGrass.

While the capacity of Texas Stadium stands at 65,595 for football games, the largest crowd was 71,132 for Carmen in concert. The annual Cinco de Mayo and Diez Y Seis celebrations that are held at Texas Stadium draw crowds of over 100,000 people.

The first NFL game at Texas Stadium featured the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots on October 24, 1971. Religious events such as Promise Keepers and the Billy Graham Crusades have passed through Texas Stadium. Performers like Garth Brooks, the Eagles, and Madonna have put on concerts at the Texas Stadium. Car shows, carnivals, Supercross, and various other festivals have also been held at Texas Stadium.

Even though Texas Stadium has not hosted a Super Bowl, the Dallas Cowboys have eight Super Bowl appearances and five Super Bowl victories, both more than any other NFL team. The Dallas Cowboys are planning on moving out of Texas Stadium in 2008 or 2009 and into a new stadium in Arlington, Texas. For now, the fate of Texas Stadium is uncertain.
