For the 1995 Cleveland Browns, the desire for a new home caused a city switch, two moves, and even a name change. Not that unusual in the NFL except that the city of Cleveland, Ohio, wasn't pleased about losing its beloved Cleveland Browns. Within a year, a deal was in place to return a Cleveland Browns franchise to Cleveland. In the end, the original Cleveland Browns were renamed the Baltimore Ravens and a new Cleveland Browns team was born. Both teams got a new stadium. Ironically, the new Cleveland Browns opened their season at Cleveland Browns Stadium in 1999, only a year after the Baltimore Ravens began to occupy their new home.

In 1984, Cleveland Browns defensive players coined the term "Dawgs." Bleacher fans liked the term and named themselves the "Dawg Pound." And although the Cleveland Browns are a different team playing in the new Cleveland Browns Stadium, the "Dawg Pound" still houses the rowdiest fans seated in 10,000 bleacher seats close to the action on the field.

Cleveland Browns Stadium is built on the former site of Cleveland Municipal Stadium. The 73,200 facility had a construction cost of $283 million. Two three-tier orange grandstands line both sides of the gridiron. Luxury Suites stretch above both sidelines. Architect HOK designed architectural gaps in the seating bowl at Cleveland Browns Stadium at the Southeast and Southwest entrance plazas to allow view of the field and the inside of the stadium even when the Cleveland Browns are not playing. The facility itself offers a view of downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie. Two scoreboard/video boards sit beyond the seating area behind the end zones. And, like any old school football facility, Cleveland Browns Stadium uses only a grass playing surface. It is also large enough to allow it to host international soccer matches. Currently, the stadium hosts the annual Ohio Classic college football game. It also can be rented out for private events.

The City of Cleveland owns Cleveland Browns Stadium. In an unusual decision compared to most modern stadiums it chose not to sell the naming rights. The city's 1996 agreement with the NFL secured the Cleveland Browns name, its colors and its history. Perhaps the city decided that some things shouldn't be for sale. Cleveland Browns Stadium is located at 1085 West 3rd St., on the shores of Lake Erie.
