Soldier Field

Located in Chicago, Illinois, Soldier Field is home to the Chicago Bears of the National Football League. The Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer also called Soldier Field home until 2006, when they moved into their new Bridgeview Stadium.

Soldier Field was first built in 1924 at a cost of $10 million. When Soldier Field underwent a complete rebuild in 2002, it cost $365 million. In the beginning, Soldier Field had a capacity crowd of up to 90,000 spectators, depending on what the stadium was being used for at the time. Now, after two renovations, Soldier Field has a maximum capacity of 63,000.

Wheelchair accessible and companion seating is available on an individual game basis. Should their be a time when all wheelchair-accessible seating is sold out, those in need of such seating are encouraged to purchase regular seating and get in touch with the ADA Coordinator of Soldier Field to arrange an exchange.

The stadium at Soldier Field serves as a memorial to the American soldiers who died for their country. When it first opened on October 9, 1924, the stadium was named the Municipal Grant Park Stadium and was renamed Soldier Field one year later. Soldier Field also was listed as a National Landmark in 1984; however, it was taken off the list of National Landmarks in September 2004.

Due to the format of the NFL where teams typically play only one game a week, the NFL has a different stadium host the Super Bowl each year. While the Chicago Bears won the Super Bowl in 1986, they won it at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Soldier Field has never hosted a Super Bowl and event that is often hosted by an indoor facility or a stadium in a warm-weather climate. When the World Cup came to America in 1994, Soldier Field hosted the opening ceremonies as well as some of the World Cup games.

In addition to Chicago Bears games, Soldier Field has also hosted various events. Concerts such as Dave Matthews Band, Pink Floyd, and Rolling Stones have played at Soldier Field. Other events that have been held at Soldier Field throughout the years include circuses, rodeos, stock car racing, and tractor pulls.
