Bill Synder's Wildcats made the jump from "Good team against weak opponents" to "good team against anybody" when they won the Big 12 North division, then proceeded to stomp the favored Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 championship, 35-14.

This year, the Wildcats look to be a little more wobbly without quarterback/option specialist Ell Roberson at the helm. Sophomore Dylan Meier will take over behind center, and he's more of a passer than a runner, so the offense will have a different look. However, they will still be a run-first team as long as Darren Sproles is involved. Sproles came up 14 yards short of 2,000 last year and scored 16 times, and believe it or not he's in a position to improve on those numbers this year, as the offensive line should be up to the task of creating openings. Sproles is arguably the best running back in college football, and he can carry a team.

He may need to, as the defense returns only three starters, but many believe this is a defense that can be just as good as the group last year that grounded the Sooners' aerial attack. The good news for Wildcat fans is that opposing O-lines can only choose one pass rusher to double up, and they'll have to choose between Scott Edmonds and Jermaine Berry. With unproven but intriguing Kevin Huntley standing six-feet-eight-inches tall and at the other end of the line, the front four will be a force to be reckoned with. That will help an inexperienced secondary that will have three first-time starters. If Marvin Simmons has a breakout season, which many are expecting, then this defense could challenge the Oklahoma defense as the conference's best.
