The Insight Bowl has been played in Arizona since the first Insight Bowl game in 1989. At first, the games were played at Arizona Stadium but have since moved to Chase Field in Phoenix. In 2005, the Insight Bowl is going to be played for the last time in Chase Field (formerly Bank One Ballpark home of the Arizona Diamondbacks) on December 27, before it is moved to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe in 2006.

Arizona is the only team to win the Insight Bowl twice since they won the inaugural Insight Bowl in 1989. When Insight Enterprises assumed sponsorship rights the Insight Bowl became the Insight.com Bowl from 1997-2001. Since then, it has only been referred to as the Insight Bowl. What used to feature an annual match up between teams from the Big East and the Pac 10 now features teams from the Big Ten and Big 12.

In the 2005 Insight Bowl, Airzona State and Rutgers faced off as Arizona State took home the 45-40 victory. With a capacity crowd of 46,917 was the largest crowd to date at the Insight Bowl since it moved to Chase Field six years ago.
