USC Trojans Mens Basketball
The USC Trojans had their worst season in quite some time in 2004, failing in an attempt for a bid in both the NIT and the NCAA Tournament. They finished 13-15 overall, with an 8-10 record in Pac-10 play. The good news is, with a school of such reputation, chances are the only place to go is up.
The Trojans will be hurt by the loss of Desmon Farmer, who averaged nearly 20 points a game last year. Nobody is waiting in the wings to pick up the scoring slack on his own, but there are a collection of seniors who can share the load. Rory O'Neill, Gregg Guenther Jr. and Jeff McMillan can all score double-digits in any given game. The bigger question mark concerns whether or not anybody can carry the team the way Farmer did. Freshmen Nick Young and Gabriel Pruitt are the fruit of the recruiting class, and they could both be ready to make an impact right away.
Tim Floyd is slated to take over USC's head coaching position right away, and while his pro record is laughable, he should still be a heck of a college coach. An NIT would be a positive for USC this year. When Floyd gets his program going, they should be an NCAA Tournament regular.
