Oregon State Beavers Mens Basketball

The Oregon State Beavers, outmanned for most of the season, never really got any sort of momentum in the 2003-04 season. They finished 12-16 overall, and 6-12 inside the Pac-10, though they did score a late-season upset over Arizona at home.

One year later, the Beavers should be in a lot better shape. They experienced growing pains, but now OSU returns all five starters to the floor. David Lucas has blossomed into an unexpected star. The 6-foot-7-inch walk-on forward averaged 17 points per game last year, and shows signs of improving upon that. He'll be surrounded with familar teammates J.S. Nash, Chris Stephens, and Lamar Hurd. Nash and Stephens can both average double-digits in scoring a night. The newcomers to Oregon State will give them an interesting look. At 6-feet-8-inches, Marcel Jones can score from both the inside and the outside, and at 7-feet-2-inches, redshirt freshman Liam Hughes can clog up the paint.

Size and skills don't matter as much if you can't routinely outscore the other team, and that's one thing that the Oregon State Beavers haven't proven yet. With a favorable non-conference schedule, they can get a head start on that.
