Going into the 2005-06 season, the Florida Gators were selected to finish second to Kentucky in the East Division of the Southeastern Conference. Florida entered the season having lost three main players from the 2004-05 season. While Florida led the SEC in points a season ago, whether or not they can come close to that kind of outcome this season remains to be seen. Either way, when the preseason rankings came out, Florida was only mentioned on both lists as a team that received votes but not enough to crack the Top 25 in either poll. Florida was ranked on both lists just a few weeks into this season, and has been ranked ever since. Part of their success on the court can be attributed to the Corey Brewer and Taurean Green. After losing their first game of the season, Florida ran off a streak of 17 straight wins during which they were ranked as high as No. 2. Head Coach Billy Donovan lead the Florida team to an extremely successful 2004-05 season, and he looks to be just as successful this season. Florida won the SEC Tournament after going 39 straight games without so much as even a win in an SEC Tournament game, and lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
