The California Golden Bears went through a transition period last year, and their 13-15 overall record belies the fact that they actually finished .500 in the Pac-10, which is no small feat. Leon Powe had an outstanding freshman year, and he'll bring a lot to this year's Cal team if he can return from knee surgery in time.

Cal coach Ben Braun is hoping he can get another dominating performance out of a freshman big man while Powe rehabilitates. He'll have three to choose from, as Devon Hardin (6'10"), Kevin Langford (Keith Langford's brother) and Sam Rayburn (6'11') comprise one of the best recruiting classes in the nation, and at least one of them will be seeing valuable minutes right away.

It'll be up to Ayinde Ubaka, who will be running the point, to direct the action on the floor. He'll have his hands full, as he'll have young players in the paint and a shooting guard who has been away from the position for a year. If Powe comes back, Cal will have the ability to make a late season charge, and the Golden Bears will pose a serious threat for whomever they play.
