AT&T Center
The AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, is home to the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association. Prior to playing in the AT&T Center, the San Antonio Spurs played in the Alamodome. The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League and the San Antonio Silver Stars of the Women's National Basketball Association also call AT&T Center home.
AT&T Center construction broke ground in August 2000 and opened in October 2002. The $186 million construction cost was covered by a city sales tax. Architect Ellerbe Becket was responsible for the design. SBC Communications, Inc. paid $41 million for 20-year naming rights beginning in 2000.
Seating capacity stands at 18,500 people for basketball games; 13,400 people for hockey games; and a maximum concert capacity of 17,444 people. Wheelchair and companion seats are available on all levels of AT&T Center. The AT&T Center is fully ADA-compliant.
The first NBA game at AT&T Center was November 1, 2002, when the San Antonio Spurs hosted the Toronto Raptors. The first NBA title the San Antonio Spurs won was in 1999, but was not at their current home court. However, their NBA Championships in 2003 and 2005 were both won at AT&T Center. Since moving into AT&T Center, the San Antonio Spurs have won approximately 80 percent of their home games.
With more than 200 events a year at AT&T Center, only some of those events are sports. Concerts such as Depeche Mode, and family events including the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Sesame Street Live, and Ringling and Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus have also passed through AT&T Center.
