Toyota Center

Located in downtown Houston, Texas, the Toyota Center is home to the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association. The Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League and the Houston Comets of the Women's National Basketball Association also play their home games at Toyota Center. Toyota Center was the replacement for the Compaq Center.

Toyota Center opened in October 2003. The $175 million cost was completely publicly financed. Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota paid $100 million for 20-year naming rights beginning in 2003.

Seating capacity at Toyota Center stands at 18,500 people for basketball games, 17,800 people for hockey, and 19,300 people for concerts. There are 159 wheelchair spaces which are located on both the lower section and the upper section of the arena, complete with attendant seats.

In addition to basketball and hockey games, Toyota Center hosts various events throughout the year. Each year over 200 events are hosted at the Toyota Center. The Harlem Globetrotters, Stars on Ice, and Cirque Du Soleil Delirium are just some of the events scheduled at Toyota Center in 2006.

The first NBA game at Toyota Center took place on October 30, 2003, when the Houston Rockets hosted the Denver Nuggets. The Toyota Center is scheduled to host the 2006 NBA All-Star Game.

Getting there and getting around

Toyota Center is located at 1510 Polk St., in Houston. Two of the best ways to get there from the north or south is to take either State Route 59 or Interstate 45. Interstate 10 is the choice from the east and west. The Houston Metro has various routes around the Toyota Center as far as public transportation. Adjacent to the Toyota Center is the Toyota Center parking garage, which offers wheelchair accessible parking. There are two locations for guest drop off and pick up, located on Bell Street and on La Branch.
