Pepsi Center

Not be to confused with Pepsi Arena in Albany, New York, the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, hosts the home games of the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League. The Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League also plays their home games at Pepsi Center.

Construction first began on the Pepsi Center in November 1997, and it was first opened in October 1999. Construction of the building cost $160 million, which was built by Ascent Entertainment. Instead of asking taxpayers to underwrite the stadium, Ascent built their own stadium and made a deal with the Colorado Avalanche and the Denver Nuggets to keep the team in Denver and in the Pepsi Center for 25 years. Pepsi paid an estimated $68 million for naming rights and promotional sponsorship of the Pepsi Center.

Seating at Pepsi Center stands at 19,099 people for Denver Nuggets games; 18,129 for Colorado Avalanche games; 17,600 for end-stage concerts; and 20,100 people for center-stage concerts. Also in the Pepsi Center is a basketball practice facility. Pepsi Center is one of only a few arenas in North America to provide a separate practice facility for its host teams. The first NBA game at the Pepsi Center featured the Denver Nuggets hosting the Phoenix Suns on November 2, 1999.

Other events at the Pepsi Center each year include a wide variety of circuses, ice extravaganzas, musical acts, and sporting events. Aerosmith, Coldplay, the Harlem Globetrotters, and Stars on Ice are just a few of the performances scheduled at the Pepsi Center in 2006.
