Delta Center

Home to the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association, the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, was also used as the home of the Women's National Basketball League's Utah Starzz from 1997 until the team folded in 2002. The Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League plays their home games at Delta Center beginning in 2006. Located in Salt Lake City, the Delta Center first opened in October 1991.

The $94 million cost of building the Delta Center was largely financed by private debt. Delta Airlines paid $25 million for 20-year naming rights in 1991. While it typically takes around two years to finish an arena, the Delta Center was completed in just over 15 months. In August 1999, a tornado damaged parts of the Delta Center and a $5 million renovation was done, including a roof replacement.

Delta Center claims to be the largest and most technologically advanced of any arena within a five state radius of its location. Capacity at Delta Center stands at 19,911 people for basketball games, including 56 luxury suites and 668 club seats. With a total of six different seating configurations, Delta Center can fit as few people as 14,000 for ice shows or as many as 21,000 people for center-stage concerts.

The first basketball game to take place at the Delta Center was on November 7, 1991, when the Utah Jazz hosted the Seattle SuperSonics. Various events have taken place at Delta Center in addition to basketball games. The 2002 Winter Olympics figure skating competition was held at Delta Center. Disney On Ice and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus both pass through every year. Also, many concerts such as the Rolling Stones and U2 have been performed at the Delta Center.

Getting there and getting around

Located at 301 West South Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Delta Center is accessed by two main interstates. From the north and south, it is advised to take I15; from the East and West, take I80. From all directions, take the 600 South off ramp; turn left on 300 West; the main entrance is on the corner of 300 West and South Temple. The Delta Center prides itself on meeting or exceeding ADA requirements, including disabled parking and building accessibility.
