Comfort is No Stretch at Bradley Center
While many new indoor arenas are touting their extra seating capacity, Bradley Center boasts of additional leg room and comfort for fans of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Milwaukee Bucks. Bradley Center's oblong octagon-shaped seating provides clear lines of sight and the distance is only 152 feet from the top row to the basketball court while the 68 suites in Bradley Center are 76 feet from the court. Classic architecture dominates Bradley Center's elegant appearance from its lobby skylight system and its concrete and polished granite columns to the red-and-pink granite exterior of the building.
Most agree that Bradley Center in downtown Milwaukee is a pleasant place to see a game or show, whether it's the Milwaukee Bucks, the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL), or the Marquette University Golden Eagles men's basketball team of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Bradley Center seats 18,600 for basketball and 17,800 for ice hockey. A house band called StreetLife livens up some of the sporting events at Bradley Center and adds to the ambiance. Bradley Center can seat 20,000 for concerts and has attracted national performers and a range of events including Bon Jovi, Martina McBride, Limp Bizkit, Sesame Street Live, and Tony Hawk's Boom Boom HuckJam.
Bradley Center was built in 1988 at a cost of $90 million. It was a gift from Jane and Lloyd Pettit to the state of Wisconsin. Bradley Center was named in memory of Jane's late father Harry Lynde Bradley, one of the founders of Allen Bradley. It has hosted the Bank One Badger Hockey Showdown and the 1997 NCAA Championships (the 50th anniversary of the ice hockey championships). In April 2006, the Bradley Center is scheduled to host the 2006 Frozen Four college ice hockey tournament. Bradley Center is also the former home of the Milwaukee Wave, a four-time National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) Champion, and the now-defunct Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League (AFL). The powers that be are squabbling over whether to build a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks and how it would be financed. A few years will tell the tale.
