The National Basketball Association has long been a staple of American sports. Founded in 1946 as the Basketball Association of America, the league would officially become the National Basketball Association in 1949 by merging with the National Basketball League. Having fourteen franchises in 1949, the NBA struggled to gain popularity, and by 1954 had consolidated down to only eight teams. In an attempt to gain popularity, the NBA would add rules such as the 24-second shot clock and the three-point-line to increase scoring in an attempt to draw larger crowds.

The popularity of the NBA would not be created by rule changes though, as it was the players that brought notoriety to not only the game, but also to the league itself. After being threatened by the success of the American Basketball Association for many years, the NBA truly began to gain control of the game when both Larry Bird and Magic Johnson joined the league in 1979. It was the electrifying play of stars such as these that propelled the NBA to the top of basketball, and eventually secured their spot as the top professional basketball league in the United States.

It was soon after that the popularity of the NBA skyrocketed into mainstream American culture. Players such as Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson became household names, and every season began to see increases in both television viewer ship and game attendance. The NBA had officially become the premiere professional basketball league of not only America, but of the World as well.

Today the NBA consists of thirty teams in nearly every major American market. Game attendance has been through the roof, and the league's popularity is on the rise again. With a new class of superstars such as LeBron James, Carmello Anthony and Dwayne Wade revitalizing the NBA once again, there is no better time to catch NBA action LIVE.

The 2006-07 season saw the San Antonio Spurs sweep the Final series against the Cleveland Cavaliers to win a World Championship under the direction of Gregg Popovich and with superstars Duncan, Parker and Ginobili. With the action getting more intense each year, and a new group of young superstars ready to emerge, there is no better Ticket in sports than catching the action of the NBA LIVE.
