Talladega Superspeedway claims to be the biggest, fastest, and most competitive motorsports facility in the world. Such claims are backed up by speed and competition records that have been set at Talladega Superspeedway. A record for the fastest 500-mile stock car race was set on May 10, 1997 by Mark Martin at 188.354 miles per hour; the most lead changes (26) in a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series event was set on July 27, 1986 and tied on April 22, 2001.

Built in 1969, the Talladega Superspeedway has grown to encompass around 3,000 acres, including both the track site and parking areas. Talladega Superspeedway has 143,231 seats not including the thousands that can fit in the infield. Both the east and the west sides of the track have reserved seating.

The track at Talladega Superspeedway is a 2.66-mile oval. Both the north and the south turns are banked 33 degrees; the grandstands tri-oval is banked 18 degrees. While the track is 48 feet wide, the apron adds another 12 feet in width. Talladega Superspeedway was the second NASCAR track to use Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) barriers in an effort to absorb some of the energy and lessen the impact on the driver.

Known by many as the 'NASCAR's Most Competitive Track,' Talladega Superspeedway hosts five racing shows each year: the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, the Busch Series, the Craftsman Truck Series, and the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). The Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure and the Richard Petty Driving School have both been hosted at Talladega Superspeedway.
