New Hampshire International Speedway
Built on the site of the old Bryar Motorsports Park, the New Hampshire International Speedway road course uses one corner from the old Bryar track. Known as "The Magic Mile" the track is a one-mile (actually 1.058-mile) oval-shaped track, and its turns feature a 12 degree bank. The front straight is 1,500 feet and the back straight is also 1, 500 feet. Described as "Martinsville on steroids," New Hampshire International Speedway is considered one of the most unusual tracks on the Nextel Cup Series.
It is the only superspeedway in New England, and with a seating capacity of over 100,000, it can hold more people than any other sporting facility in the region. The two Nextel Cup Series races at New Hampshire International Speedway are largest spectator sporting events in New England. The Bahre family owns NHIS.
The NASCAR Nextel Cup makes two stops at New Hampshire. The Busch and Craftsman Truck circuits race once each. NASCAR Busch Series race record at New Hampshire International Speedway is held by Bobby Hamilton, Jr., from Nashville, Tennessee, who made 110.368 mph (1 hour, 55 minutes, 2 seconds) in the Busch 200, on May 11, 2002 and then there is the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race record, which is held by Jack Sprague, of Spring Lake, Michigan, who made 109.219 mph (1 hour, 56 minutes, 15 seconds) in the New England 200, on July 21, 2001. Jeff Burton is the career leader with four Cup victories at NHIS. New Hampshire International Speedway is also the home of the Loudon Classic, the longest-running motorcycle race in the United States.
