Nashville Superspeedway

Nashville Superspeedway was built in 2001, and is one of only three concrete tracks on the NASCAR circuit. Nashville Superspeedway is a motor racing complex located in Lebanon, Tennessee, United States. The track is a 1.33 mile oval and is owned by Dover Downs Entertainment, Inc. The pavement, consisting of 7,500 cubic yards of concrete, was placed full-width for the entire length of the track by a concrete paving machine that was specially constructed for this project. Nashville Superspeedway currently hosts four major races: two NASCAR Busch Series races, an Indy Racing League event, and a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Current permanent seating capacity is approximately 50,000.

Additional portable seats are brought in for some events, and the facility is said to have been designed in a way that it would be relatively simple to increase the seating capacity to 150,000. Partly because of this there has always been speculation that this facility was built primarily with an eye to bringing Cup-level NASCAR racing back to the Nashville area. However, NASCAR has little interest in staging more events in the Southeast and in fact is taking steps to reduce the number of them held in that region and spread them more evenly throughout the United States, and the track ownership has shown no inclination to move either of its two currently very successful races away from Dover. Nashville Speedway USA rejoined NASCAR in 1995 under the new management of veteran promoter Bob Harmon, but Music City's love for stock car racing dates back to the early part of this century.

On June 14, 1904 the first race was held in Nashville at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Over the next 50 years races continued to be held there. In 1958 the first NASCAR "National Sweepstakes" took place in Nashville on the brand new half-mile oval. Many changes have been made since those early years. In 1973 the track length was increased to its current 5/8-mile configuration. In 1990 additional lighting was installed along with additional seating, VIP booths and new pit roads. In 1995 both track surfaces were repaved. Along with major NASCAR events there, Nashville Speedway is also known for the best Saturday night racing in the country. Darrell Waltrip, Sterling Marlin, Bobby Hamilton, David and Jeff Green along with Jeremy Mayfield got their start there.
