Kentucky Speedway
Kentucky Speedway was built in 2000 and has a capacity of 66,089. Kentucky Speedway is co-owned by Jerry Carroll and developed on 1,000 acres, the $152 million Kentucky Speedway is a state of-the-art venue for all stock and open wheel racing series. The speedway features a 1.5-mile tri-oval with 14 degree banking and a quarter-mile paved oval, quarter-mile paved track and parking for more than 30,000 cars and 2,000 RVs. Kentucky Speedway has the distinction of being the only super speedway in the United States to open in the year 2000. Kentucky Speedway opened in June 2000 by hosting the NASCAR All Pro Series and the first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Kentucky Speedway attracted 300,000 fans in its inaugural year and set stand-alone event attendance records for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (63,760) and Indy Racing League (61,214). In 2001, a total of 360,000 fans were on hand for Kentucky Speedway's four race weekends, a 20 percent increase from the previous season. The facility also experienced success in 2002 when its all-time attendance figure passed the 843,000 mark. Kentucky Speedway is a relatively new super speedway located in Sparta, Kentucky, approximately halfway between Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio, with easy Interstate highway access to both cities, and is additionally less than 100 miles from another fairly sizable market, Lexington, Kentucky. This central location has made it seem to be a natural candidate for a NASCAR Nextel Cup race in addition to the series that it already hosts; however no plans seem to have been made for this, as it would require the move of a race from an existing venue. NASCAR's recent announcement of such moves did not include a Nextel Cup race for Kentucky Speedway. Kentucky Speedway sits on 1,000 acres of land 97 acres inside the tri-oval. Kentucky Speedway has the following amenities; 66,089 Grandstand Seats, 50 Luxury Suites, 210 seat Private Kentucky Club, 2,000 seat Bluegrass Club, 100 Private RV spaces on backstretch, 200 Reserved Camping Spaces, 1000 General Camping Spaces, Outback Steakhouse Restaurant, 2 Tire Centers, Pedestrian Tunnel 635 foot long, Escalator - infield - 22 ft tall, Escalator - grandstand - 90 ft tall, Infield media center seats 130, Press Conference Room seats 350 and an Infield Care Center.
