On August 6, 1997, Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas were chosen to be he site for the new speedway. The Kansas Speedway is located at the intersection of I-70 and I-435 in Kansas, on the west side of Kansas City, Kansas. It is about 15 miles west of Kansas City, Missouri. The Kansas Speedway will hold a seating capacity of 150, 000 when all phases of construction are complete.

The banking turns on the Kansas Speedway are fifteen degrees and the banking front straight is 10.4 degrees. Kansas Speedway provides great views from every seat and easy access in and out of the one and a half-mile, state-of-the-art facility, a response to growing interest for motorsports entertainment in the Midwest. Though the tri-oval track design is not unique to Kansas Speedway, a slight difference in the banking makes this track unique. The banking back straight is five degrees. The races that take part at the Kansas Speedway are the Nextel Cup Series which features Banquet 400 presented by ConAgra Foods, the Busch Series, which features Mr. Goodcents 300 and the Craftsman Truck Series, which features O'Reilly Auto Parts 250.
