The Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, plays host to NASCAR's Nextel Cup which includes Daytona 500, Budweiser Shootout, Gatorade Duel, and Pepsi 400. In the United States, NASCAR has become the second most popular professional sport in terms of television ratings, boasting 75 million fans. Daytona International Speedway is home of the Daytona 500 since it began in 1959 as well as home to NASCAR, The National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing. NASCAR fans refer to the Daytona 500 as 'The Great American Race.' This is the stock car race that turns men into legends and sometimes cars into scrap. The Daytona 500 pits drivers against each other for 500 miles on the Daytona Superspeedway, a 2.5 mile (4 km) tri-oval race track. Daytona International Speedway has a seating capacity for 168,000 race fans but Daytona 500's estimated attendance is more than 200,000.

NASCAR's competitive racing events begin with the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway. Rolex 24, the most prestigious and toughest sports car race in America, races on the 3.56-mile road course as the kick off event to Speedweeks. Nextel Cup racing begins with the Budweiser Shootout and the Gatorade Duel. The Craftsman Truck Series begins with the Florida Dodge Dealers 250 pickup truck race. The NASCAR Busch Series featuring the stock car junior league includes the Hershey's Kissable 300 and the Winn-Dixie 250. The Nextel Cup finishes up with the night-time running of Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway in July.

Built in 1950, Daytona International Speedway races all kinds of motor vehicles, including go-karts, dirt bikes, motorcycles, pickup trucks, and stock cars. Nine major weekends of racing activity at Daytona International Speedway feature everything from the NASCAR Nextel Cup stock cars to the 170-mph American Motorcyclist Association's AMA Superbikes and the 125-mph World Karting Association's WKA go-karts. Daytona International Speedway, an enormous 480-acre motor sports complex, is known as the "World Center of Racing" because it has the most diverse schedule of racing on the globe. Daytona International Speedway's 3.56-mile (5.7 km) road course includes tri-oval race track and 29-acre Lake Lloyd in the infield. Daytona International Speedway grounds also host events such as civic and social gatherings, car shows, athletic games, photo "shoots," production vehicle testing, and police motorcycle training.

Lee Petty started the list of Daytona 500 winners in 1959. "The King" Richard Petty has the most Daytona 500 victories. Getting There and Getting Around

Park-and-Ride provides access to and from the Speedway from off-site parking areas free of charge. They are located in Lot 7 at Bill France and Clyde Morris Boulevards and Lot 10 at the southeast corner of Williamson Boulevard & Bellevue Extension. Votran bus services provides a pay express shuttle service from Ocean Center Parking Garage at 701 Earl St. Daytona International Speedway hosts the most RV-friendly NASCAR events with a wide-variety of specialty vehicle packages that offer first-class amenities as well as unique viewing spots.

The Speedway provides tram service between the Frontstretch and Superstretch on both the east and west end of the Speedway before and after events. Trams are equipped with wheelchair ramps. Disabled parking is available in Lot 1 at the front side of the Speedway and in Lot 6 at the backstretch. Accessible seating is available at Daytona International Speedway and can accommodate service animals. A companion seat is available. Golf carts are available to transport guests with disabilities outside the track on Speedway property and onto the infield. An infield fan shuttle is also available. Disabled guests and one companion may also use the elevators at Daytona International Speedway. Free Child Safety and identification wristbands are available at Guest Information Centers and Daytona USA.
