Chicagoland Speedway

Chicagoland Speedway is a high-grip 1.5-mile D-shaped tri-oval track. It has tight corners and 18 degree banking in the turns. Chicagoland Speedway seats 75,000 and includes 40 suites. The height of the grandstands is 15 stories tall, which is the same height as the Navy Pier Ferris Wheel in downtown Chicago. Built in Joliet adjacent to the site of Route 66 Raceway, Chicagoland Speedway is Illinois' largest sporting facility. From its infield you can see the distant skyscrapers of downtown Chicago. It includes a 1/4-mile drag strip and a 1/2-mile dirt oval track.

The $130 million Chicagoland Speedway opened during the summer of 2001. The track is headed by race team owner Chip Ganassi, who negotiated a deal with Charles Bidwell II, owner of Sportsmans Park, to help him increase the use of the facility and it can be used both for car racing and for horses, the pitlane and warm-up lane, which run parallel to the paved oval being covered with a rubber-based surface and dirt to create the horse track. Chicagoland Speedway, held its Nextel Cup and Busch Series events for the first time in 2001. Chicagoland Speedway hosts a NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup race each July, as well as an IRL race Labor Day weekend.
