Comerica Park

Comerica Park hosts the home games of the Detroit Tigers of Pro Baseball. The replacement for Tiger Stadium, Comerica Park is in close proximity to Ford Field, home of the National Football League's (NFL) Detroit Lions, and Joe Louis Arena, home to the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Groundbreaking for Comerica Park was held in October 1997. Funding for the new stadium was over 60 percent private, with the rest of the cost covered by public sources. Comerica Park was ready by April 2000.

Comerica Bank paid $66 million over 30 years beginning in 1998 for naming rights to the ballpark. The playing field inside the park is 25 feet below street level and fans can walk along the main concourse and still be able to view the field. Seating capacity stands at 40,950 people on three levels of seating and all seats are angled toward home plate. Prior to the 2005 season, the bullpens were moved behind the left field fence and 950 more seats were added. Comerica Park has no upper deck outfield seats, allowing for an unparalleled view of the downtown Detroit skyline. The lower seating bowl alone has 23,000 seats. The rest of the seats are throughout the park, including 11,000 on the main upper deck. There are also 102 luxury suites.

There are plenty of one-of-a-kind attractions as Comerica Park in addition to the action on the baseball diamond. A carousel, which is fully wheel-chair accessible, is located behind the first base area. There is also a Ferris wheel on the third base line of Comerica Park. The main concourse features a Walk of Fame which is a historical display that celebrates great moments in Detroit Tigers history. Near the main entrance is the Big Cat Food Court which offers a variety of food options. Comerica Park also boasts the biggest scoreboard in existence. The face of the scoreboard measures in at 202 feet wide. Included are a 42-by-42 foot video screen, a color matrix board, display ad panels, and billboards.

The first Pro Baseball game at Comerica Park was on April 11, 2000, when the Detroit Tigers hosted the Seattle Mariners. Comerica Park hosted the 2005 Pro Baseball All-Star Game and the related festivities and activities. During the Home Run Derby, Bobby Abreu hit a record 14 home runs en route to winning the Derby.
