Kansas City Royals | Kauffman Tickets |

Kauffman Stadium is home to the Kansas City Royals of Pro Baseball's American League. When it was first decided that there was a need for a new stadium in Kansas City, it was instead decided that there was going to be two new stadiums built instead of one. The A's couldn't wait until the new stadium was built and they relocated to Oakland in 1968. One year later, Kansas City was awarded an Pro Baseball team, and the Kansas City Royals were born. When it first opened on April 10, 1973, with a game between the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers, Kauffman Stadium was known as Royals Stadium.
Along with Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL), Kauffman Stadium is part of the Truman Sports Complex. Kauffman Stadium has some unique features. The 322-foot wide waterfall is the largest privately-funded fountain in the world. A 12-story high scoreboard incorporates 16,320 lights, most of which are used by the 40-by-60 foot screen. Just beyond left field is Little K, an interactive mini-ballpark aimed to give kids under 12 a chance to hit one out of the park. Located next to Little K the Cool Crest Putting Diamond, which is four holes of miniature golf. Also for kids 12 and under, Cool Crest gives kids the opportunity to test their golfing skills.
Kauffman Stadium stayed pretty much the same until the 90s. A 30-by-40 foot JumboTron video board was installed in 1990. The stadium was renamed in honor of former owner Ewing Kauffman on April 10, 1973. AstroTurf was replaced with natural grass in 1995 and Kauffman Stadium was renovated at the end of the 1998 season. During the renovation, additional field level seating known as "Crown Seats" and four dugout suites were added. Kauffman Stadium has a seating capacity of 40,793 people. Since it first opened, over 60 million people have visited the stadium.
Nolan Ryan pitched his first no-hitter while pitching at Kauffman Stadium on May 15, 1973, while he was a member of the California Angels. On July 24, 1973, the stadium hosted the Pro Baseball All-Star Game. In 1985, the Kansas City Royals went on to win the World Series for the first World Series title won at Kauffman Stadium. Almost 2.5 million people came to watch the Kansas City Royals play during the 1989 season. Paul Molitor joined the 3,000-hit club with a triple during a game on September 16, 1996.
