Coors Field

Pitchers beware: The Colorado Rockies' Denver, Colorado, home may make your breaking ball disappear into thin air. Coors Field's high altitude means air resistance is cut and home runs are plentiful even though the fences are actually more distant than in most baseball stadiums. The reduced air resistance at Coors Field also reduces pitchers' ability to throw curve balls and their fastballs will have more oomph. Fences are short in height and foul territory is narrow, making Coors Field one of the most problematic Pro Baseball stadiums for pitchers. Conversely, batters reach for the mountains at Coors Field and the high scores and frequent home runs over the grass fields are legendary. When Coors Field hosted baseball's 69th All-Star Game in 1998, the field's reputation as a home run launching pad drew even more attention.

The Colorado Rockies played their first two seasons at Mile High Stadium setting unexpected attendance records. The popularity of the Colorado Rockies during their first season spurred the addition of 7,000 seats to Coors field while it was under construction. Opened in 1995, Coors Field now seats 50,200 including its 63 luxury suites and 4,500 club seats. Coors Field's Rockpile, a lively center-field bleacher section, is well known throughout the National League. A purple row of upper-tier seats indicates the row exactly one mile above sea level. Coors Field is built 21 feet below street level so that it wouldn't overpower Denver's Lower Downtown neighborhood.

Coors Field is named for Coors Brewing Co. It cost $300 million to build Coors Field. A decorative wildlife area overlooking the outfield fits in with the Colorado Rockies' Rocky Mountain setting. Coors Field's concourse circles the entire ballpark and provides lots of areas to stretch and watch the game.

The most unusual food choice you'll find at Coors Field is Rocky Mountain oysters, sold behind Section 153. Rocky Mountain oysters are calf testicles that have been peeled, coated with flour, and pan-fried. If that doesn't sound delicious, don't worry. Coors Field's other concessions feature standard stadium fare, a deli, veggie wraps, gardenburgers, quesadillas, grilled chicken, and pasta. Other baseball-related distractions include the Coors Field Interactive Area. A pitching video game, a video batting cage, a speed gun that tests your arm speed, a T-ball cage, and a home run derby give Colorado Rockies' fans a moment in the players' shoes. Stop by the fantasy broadcast booth to record yourself announcing the game. You can also create a photo with your personal message on any Pro Baseball scoreboard.
