Los Angeles Dodgers | Dodgers Tickets |

Dodger Stadium is one of the most picturesque stadiums in Pro Baseball. Built on a hillside overlooking Los Angeles, Dodger Stadium is beautifully landscaped, immaculately maintained and loved by fans and ballplayers alike. In fact, in 2003, Pro Baseball players named Dodger Stadium the best in baseball, according to a "Sports Illustrated" poll. That honor is particularly exceptionally given that Dodger Stadium was 41 years old at the time.
Once home to the Los Angeles Angels, this facility was built in 1962 with $23 million in private funds. It has stood the test of time and adapted with ease. In 1995, Dodgers Stadium installed a grass field that uses technology to manage field moisture through controlled drainage and irrigation. In 2003, the fan experience was enhanced with a new scoreboard, a DodgerVision video board, and a state-of-the-art control room. In 2004, Dodger Stadium added luxury suites. By the end of 2005, the Los Angeles Dodgers had played more games at Dodger Stadium than they did at Ebbets Field, and there's no end in sight.
Dodger Stadium, formerly called Chavez Ravine Stadium, has been called a pitchers' park because the ocean cools the air quickly after sunset making it dense and slowing down fly balls. In addition, visibility for hitters is poor, the field dimensions are large, and foul territory is excessive. Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, and Fernando Valenzuela became superstars after making Dodger Stadium their home. Improvements for the 2006 season convert baseline seating into retro-style box seats, which should reduce foul territory. Dodger Stadium replaced nearly all the seats in 2006 as well.
Dodger stadium holds 56,000 fans and was designed to expand to 85,000 seats. During the 1978 season, Dodger Stadium became the first ballpark to draw more than three million fans. Eight World Series were played at Dodger Stadium and the Los Angeles Dodgers took home four World Championships. The Pro Baseball All-Star Game in 1980 and the Olympic Games' baseball competition in 1984 also drew fans to Dodger Stadium. In 1991, Dodger Stadium hosted the Opening Ceremonies for the United States Olympic Festival and the second annual International Baseball Association World All-Star Game. Dodger Stadium has also hosted guests from around the world. Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass at Dodger Stadium in 1987. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Bee Gees, Elton John, Simon and Garfunkel, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Genesis, Eric Clapton, U2, the Dave Matthews Band, and Bruce Springsteen. The Three Tenors, which includes Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti also played at Dodger Stadium.
Getting There and Getting Around
Dodger Stadium is located at 1000 Elysian Park Ave. Parking is a consistent complaint among Los Angeles Dodger fans, so allow plenty of extra time. Bus service is available at the corner of Sunset Blvd. & Elysian Park Ave. Take Metro bus routes 2, 3, and 4. Taxi service is available in Lot 3 on the west side of Dodger Stadium. Disabled parking is available in Lots 2, 3, 4, 8, and 10. Elevators are located behind home plate and access all levels of the stadium, but use is restricted to disabled guests and specific seats. If you're a stadium groupie you won't be pleased that Dodger Stadium limits fan access to the area where your tickets are located. But in general it's a great place to see a game.
