Chase Field

Chase Field, formerly Bank One Ballpark, is not your grandfather's ballpark. Sure, the Arizona Diamondback's won three division titles and the 2001 World Series in their first five seasons of Pro Baseball. And yes, Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, is one of the sites of the first World Baseball Classic in 2006 which could be yet another strong addition to baseball's legacy. Granddad never envisioned trying to catch home runs from a swimming pool, a hot tub, or the terrace of a dining establishment the way one can at Chase Field. Chase Field even has picnic tables on tiers to give 600 fans full view of the game while they enjoy a family gathering.

When granddad talked baseball history, he didn't know that a graphic timeline, video walls, and three-dimensional exhibits would one day bring America's oldest past time to life at Fox Sports Arizona DiamondTown. Would he have tried the interactive activities and video games at Chase Field's Peter Piper Playhouse? Families and children of all ages enjoy those distractions behind the center-field scoreboard at Chase Field. And the Arizona Diamondbacks mascot, D. Baxter the Bobcat, makes appearances during the fourth and fifth innings.

Whether Arizona Diamondbacks fans embrace the multi-entertainment facet of Chase Field or not they have to appreciate some of the stadium's features. The $354-million Chase Field has good sight lines because 80 percent of its 49,033 seats are inside the foul poles. Chase Field's foul line seats that are beyond the infield are slightly angled so that Arizona Diamondback fans won't have to twist to look at the pitcher's mound. It is one of only a few stadiums with a retractable roof to control weather factors. Yet, it has maintained a natural grass surface, a Bull's Eye Bermuda turf overseeded with Kentucky blue grass and perennial rye grass. Scientists claim that Chase Field's elevation 1,100 feet above sea level will make fly balls travel farther than other stadiums. And when an Arizona Diamondback hits a home run, water cannons fire streams 30 to 35 feet into the air.

Chase Field was formerly known as The BOB, after its previous name Bank One Ballpark. Built in 1998, it includes 69 private luxury suites and 4,400 club seats. In the left-field corner of Chase Field, patrons at Friday's Front Row Sports Grill can eat overlooking the field daily. The restaurant credits fifty percent of the ticket price to your food bill if you have table seating on game days. Chase Field will host the Challenge at Chase baseball rivalry featuring Arizona State University and University of Arizona, starting in 2006 so watch for it!
