Beginning April 1, 1994, with a game between the Texas Rangers and the Milwaukee Brewers of Pro Baseball, Ameriquest Field in Arlington became the new home of the Texas Rangers. Located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Ameriquest Field was the replacement for Arlington Stadium. Construction began on April 2, 1992, and was opened almost two years later, on April 1, 1994. Instead of building a more modern ballpark, the Texas Rangers decided to build a retro-style ballpark. Similar in design to that of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles, and Jacobs Field, home to the Cleveland Indians, Ameriquest Field differentiates in that the dimensions are irregular.
The asymmetrical field dimensions begin at home plate. From home plate to the left field foul pole is 332 feet, and the left field power alley increases to 390 feet. Straightaway center measures in at 400 feet but increases to 407 feet at right-center field. The right field corner foul pole is just 325 feet from home plate. The bullpens in right field also cause the right corner of the bullpen to shorten the field to 377 feet from the overall distance of 381 feet.
Ameriquest Mortgage purchased naming rights to the ballpark in 2004 for 30-year naming rights at a price of $75 million. Until the purchase, the ballpark was known as The Ballpark in Arlington. Outside of the ballpark are the Rangers Walk of Fame and the Nolan Ryan Expressway. Inside the park are more than just the playing field and the dugouts. There are the Legends of the Game Baseball Museum, a 12-acre lake, and an interactive learning center for children, among other amenities. Inside the park is a four-story office building that expands from left center to right center field. The playing field is located 22 feet beneath the street level. Seating capacity at the ballpark is 49,115 people on five levels: the lower deck, lower suites, club level, upper suites, and upper deck.
The first regular-season Pro Baseball game at Ameriquest Field was on April 11, 1994, between the Texas Rangers and the Milwaukee Brewers. The 1995 Pro Baseball All-Star Game was hosted at Ameriquest Field. On June 12, 1997 the first Pro Baseball inter-league game was played at Ameriquest Field was when the Texas Rangers hosted the San Francisco Giants.
