Atlanta Steeplechase
The Atlanta Steeplechase has been home to some of the year's most exciting horse racing since 1966 and continues to do so today. The first race was run at Horseshoe Bend on the Chattahoochee River on a hot Sunday afternoon in March as was witnessed by nearly 9,000 spectators. The success of the initial race saw the tradition continue at Horseshoe Bend for the next five years. In 1971 the Steeplechase made a forty mile journey to its new home at Seven Branches Farm, were it would remain for nine years and enjoy a doubling in viewer ship since the race's days at Horseshoe Bend. After two more moves the race made its new, and current, home the Kingston Downs in 1993. Located just outside of Cartersville, Georgia the 435-acre facility boasts a track that is viewable in its entirety by all spectators in the facility. Definitely a home to horse racing history, no racing fan's experience would be complete without a trip to the Atlanta Steeplechase.
