The Houston Golf Association has been conducting PGA Tour events since 1946. In 2006, the Shell Houston Open is scheduled to be played at the new Redstone Tournament Course as the only PGA Tour stop in Houston.
Vijay Singh became the first player in the history of the Shell Houston Open to successfully defend his title when he won for the second time in as many years in 2005 when he defeated John Daly in a one-hole playoff. He is now second to Sam Snead as far as victories since turning 40.
