The John Deere Classic is the final chance for golfers to qualify for the British Open. Whoever finishes the highest while not otherwise being exempt gets to play in the British Open. TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois has been the home of the annual John Deere Classic.
In 2005, Sean OHair won the first tournament in his career after making only his 18th start. Hank Kuehne and J.L. Lewis competed until the last hole to finish within one and two shorts, respectively, of OHair. In the 33-year history of the John Deere Classic, there have been 17 first-time winners including five in the previous seven years. Last year also saw Michelle Wie in her third PGA Tour appearance, although she failed to make the cut. Defending champion Todd Hamilton finished tied for 13th.
