The Los Tigres del Norte band is one of Mexico's leading bands. The band plays in a popular style of music that is played in Mexico and the Southwestern United States called Bandera music ( the band is known for it's bandera style and is categorized as a bandera group). Los Tigres del Norte story began in Mexico in 1968, when their father, D. Eduardo Hernandez, a rancher, suffered an accident that left him handicapped and unable to work. Jorge, then only 14 years old, as the eldest of the Hernandez brothers, decided that they could dedicate themselves to music to help the family economically. One day, after performing in the border city of Mexicali, they were booked to participate in an Independence Day parade in San Jose, California.

The group had not yet been named; and then, an immigration official called them ' Little Tigers', and since they were traveling north, he added an additional expression, calling them ' Los Tigres del Norte.' Thus, Los Tigres Del Norte became the groups name. The band is currently based in San Jose, 'Los Tigres' chronicles the Latino immigrant experience that defines California.
