The Korn quintet from Bakersfield, California made their mark on the metal scene with the introduction of an entirely new genre, nu-metal. Fusing grunge and alternative metal with funk, hip-hop and heavy metal, Korn was seen as a musical inspiration throughout the mid-90s. Korn released their self-titled debut album in 1994. Receiving no air-time, Korn embarked on a continual tour to promote their first album. Their hard work on the road paid off as a large and dedicated fans base was established, resulting in Korn's number one position on the Billboard Heatseekers charts in 1995. Life is Peachy was their 1996 sophomore release. It wasn't until 1998's Follow the Leader that the band received widespread acceptance and success. Issues (1999), Untouchables (2002), Korn's self-produced Take a Look in the Mirror (2003) and Greatest Hits, Volume 1 (2004) were all produced before guitarist and founding member Brian "Head" Welch announced that he was formally leaving the band. Since that time, the band signed with Virgin Records, released See You on the Other Side and has been on several tours.
