Julio Jose Iglesias De La Cueva was born on September 23rd, 1943 in Madrid. He is the eldest son of Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga and Maria Del Rosario de la Cueva y Perinan. Julio is Spain's best selling singer, and one of the best selling Hispanic singers of all time. Julio Iglesias has sold 250 million records and released nearly 80 records. He has performed approximately 5,000 concerts during his career. Julio started off as a goalkeeper in the famous soccer club, Real Madrid. Unfortunately, his sporting career was cut short by an accident. On 22nd September night in 1963, when he was 20 years old, while he was driving from Majadahonda to Madrid at around 2 a.m. with some friends; he met with a tragic accident which left him semi-paralyzed for a year and a half. There was no hope that he would walk again. Once he was recovered from his injuries in 1966, he went to Murcia University to resume his studies in 1968. During his period in bed, he started to compose songs.

He received a certificate as a lawyer from Cambridge University a little later. After completing his studies in Cambridge, England, he entered the 1968 Festivalde la Cancin in Benidorm. Performing his own composition "La Vida Sigue Igual" ("Life Continues All The Same"). He won first prize and soon afterwards signed a recording contract with the independent Discos Columbia where Ramon Arcusa became his producer. On February of 1969 he participated in the Brassow Golden Stag Festival (Bucharest, Romania). During this year, he also recorded his first LP at the DECCA studios in London, did his first tour in Spain, sang in the Festival de Viel Mar (Chile), participated in the San Remo Festival (Italy) and shot his first movie: La vida sigue igual. During the next few years, he toured widely in Europe and Latin America, scoring international hits with "Manuela" (1974) and "Hey" (1979).

His global reach was increased in 1978 when he signed to CBS Records International and soon had hits in French and Italian. In 1983, Julio Iglesias received the first and only Diamond Record Award ever given to a performer by the Guinness World Book Of Records for selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist in history. In 1984, Julio became one of the few Hispanic artists to be honored with star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Julio married, on January 20th 1971 in Toledo (Spain), to Isabel Preysler Arrastria. They have three children: "Chabeli" Mar�Isabel (Sept.3rd 1971), Julio Jos Feb.25th 1973) and Enrique Miguel (May 8th 1975). They were separated in 1978, and their marriage was annulled one year later.
