Yellowcard began in 1997 out of Jacksonville, Florida. The original six members, singer Ben Dobson, Todd Clarry, Ben Harper, Sean Mackin, Warren Cooke, and Longineu W. Parsons III, met while attending Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. Midget Tossing, the first release from Yellowcard, was a mild success. Following that release, Yellowcard underwent some line up changes. Ryan Kiley replaced Todd Clarry and Ben Dobson. They then moved to Southern California.

One for the Kids was released in 2001, and followed by The Underdog EP in 2002 While both releases were well-received by Yellowcard fans, it was not until the 2003 release of Ocean Avenue that Yellowcard found mainstream success. Three singles, "Ocean Avenue," "Way Away," and "Only One" helped build Yellowcard's popularity. Tours with the likes of Something Corporate and Less Than Jake and an appearance on the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack found new Yellowcard fans.

In 2005, Yellowcard began working on their latest release, Lights and Sounds. Ben Harper left the group and was replaced by Ryan Mendez. Lights and Sounds was released in early January.
