Raised by his grandmother and planning a military career Wayne Brady took a left when he started doing high school theatre in Florida and ended up pursuing life on stage and television. Community theater followed and a stint at Orlando's Sak Theatre honed his comedic skills. Wayne Brady found he was a natural at the very difficult improvisational comedy.
Wayne Brady broke into television in dramatic roles on episodes of the NBC series I'll Fly Away and In the Heat of the Night. In 1997 he auditioned for the British TV series Whose Line Is It Anyway? winning a spot on four episodes. When the American version was cast in 1998 Wayne Brady became a regular. Together with Drew Carey, Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, and Colin Mochrie he helped weave ridiculous premises into live comedy sketches on the spot. Wayne Brady drew particular acclaim for his impressions and songs.
In 2000, Wayne Brady performed a song medley at the Emmy Awards and he played Lazardo the magician in ABC's Geppetto, featuring Drew Carey in the title role. In the fall of 2001, Brady landed his own comedy/variety series on ABC, entitled The Wayne Brady Show. It lasted only one season. Wayne Brady hosted a talk show in 2002 which lasted two seasons and won four Emmy Awards.
Wayne Brady is a member of the acclaimed improv comedy troupe Houseful of Honkeys, which appears regularly at the Acme Comedy Theatre in Los Angeles. In 2004 Wayne Brady starred in the Broadway revival of the musical Chicago. In 2006, Brady became the host of TV Land's three-part special That's What I'm Talking About, a show discussing the role of Blacks in the entertainment industry. Wayne Brady is said to be working on a CD. He took his act on the road and is performing standup comedy across the country.
