Fellow Detroit musicians and friends Jack White of The White Stripes, and soloist Brendan Benson got together to write the song "Steady As She Goes," and in the process they formed a band. They invited Jack Lawrence of The Greenhornes and Blanch and Patrick Keeler of The Greenhornes to join their rock band.
At first just the single was released and was widely popular. The Raconteurs' full-length debut, titled Broken Boy Soldiers, was released in May 2006, entering the US charts at No. 7. A tour followed the new release.
